Why HeartMath®?
Simple tools, grounded in science, for finding calm in the moments that matter
Have you ever known exactly what you “should” do to feel calmer, and still not been able to do it when it counted? In the middle of a tense conversation, a sleepless night, or a day when everyone needs something from you, advice like “just relax” rarely helps.
That gap between knowing and doing is exactly where HeartMath® works.
Are you ready to:
- feel better, more often?
- find more balance between work, family, and your own needs?
- become more flexible and resilient when life changes?
- think more clearly and make better decisions?
- communicate with more calm and confidence?
- strengthen your relationships at home and at work?
- reduce the toll stress is taking on your health, your work and your quality of life?
What is HeartMath®?
HeartMath® is a set of simple, practical techniques developed by the HeartMath® Institute, a research organization that has studied the link between the heart, the brain, and our emotions for more than 30 years.
At its heart (quite literally) is one idea: your heart and brain are in constant conversation. When you’re stressed, anxious or frustrated, your heart rhythm becomes uneven, and that sends signals to your brain that make it harder to think clearly and stay calm. When you feel appreciation, care, or ease, your heart rhythm becomes smooth and steady. This balanced state is called coherence.
The techniques teach you to shift into coherence on purpose, usually by combining slow, easy breathing with a focus on the area around your heart and a genuine positive feeling. Some take less than a minute. Others are longer practices for deeper renewal. You can use all of them anywhere, in the middle of real life.
My own experience

When I first came to HeartMath®, I already had decades of meditation under my belt. What surprised me was how much these simple techniques added. With regular practice, I became far more aware of my emotional responses as they happened, and better able to regulate my nervous system, finding calm and balance even in difficult situations.
I love how practical it is. Some techniques take only a few minutes and fit into the busiest day. What I love most is that I can do these practices on the go, while some invite deeper reflection. Practiced consistently, they’ve helped me build a healthier baseline of resilience, so even when triggered, I can get back to my baseline of calm sooner than before.
As I often say: simple does not necessarily mean superficial.
That’s why I now share these tools with the women I coach.

A growing body of research backs HeartMath®. A few highlights, in plain language:
- Lasting results in the workplace. HeartMath® reports that nearly 1,400 people at six global companies kept these results six months after their HeartMath® training: a 60% reduction in anxiety, a 45% reduction in exhaustion, a 24% improvement in the ability to focus, a 25% improvement in listening ability, and a 17% improvement in home and work conflict.
- Daily practice makes a difference. A 2025 review by researchers at the HeartMath® Institute reports that practicing coherence daily for several weeks is linked with lower perceived stress and improvements in energy, anxiety, mood, sleep, and thinking.
- Independent research supports the approach. An independent analysis of 24 studies, published in the journal Psychological Medicine in 2017, found that heart rate variability biofeedback, the kind of heart-rhythm training HeartMath® uses, was linked with a large reduction in self-reported stress and anxiety. The authors noted that more well-controlled studies are still needed.
HeartMath® supports wellbeing and is not a substitute for medical or psychological treatment. If you have a health condition, please keep working with your doctor or therapist.
